Biography
Bonnie J. Pavlis, Ph.D., is Associate Professor of Humanities and English at Riverside Community College District, where she has taught since 1990.
Dr. Pavlis received her Doctor of Philosophy degree from the University of California at Berkeley with a major in Comparative Literature (English/French/Spanish) and minors in Medieval Cultural Studies and early Romance languages. In addition, she has studied applied linguistics and holds a certificate in Teaching English as a Second Language from the University of California, Riverside. She received her Master’s Degree in Comparative Literature (English and French) from UC Berkeley, and her bachelor’s degree in English, with minors in French and classics, from UCLA.
Based at Riverside Community College District's Norco Campus, Dr. Pavlis is currently teaching classes in Humanities and English. In the Fall Semester of 2008, she will be teaching in Florence, Italy, in the RCCD Study Abroad Program.
Recent Professional Duties
Courses Taught
From 1990 to 2000, Dr. Pavlis taught primarily English composition and English as a Second Language at the Moreno Valley and Riverside campuses of RCCD. She has taught all levels of English composition (60A-B, 50, 1A-B) and was program creator and Director of the English as a Second Language program at the College, writing over 18 ESL courses at five levels of proficiency, from beginning through advanced.
Before she joined the faculty at RCC in 1990, Dr. Pavlis taught English as a Second Language and graduate education courses in Teaching ESL for 11 years at University of California, Riverside. She is a native of Southern California.
Dr. Pavlis has traveled extensively in Europe. She lived in London, England, for a year while working on her doctoral studies, doing research at the British Library. Most recently, she has traveled in Ireland, northern England, Wales, Spain, and Greece.
